Charity Football at Lerrig 27th Dec '07 The annual charity Married vs. singles football game at Lerrig once again proved to be a great success with €1,100 raised for the Claire Carmody Brick cancer research trust. Over 35 players togged out to show their skills in cold and windy but thankfully dry conditions. Shane Brick picked up another award that evening for player of the game, while young Sean Young was voted most improved player. Fenton Ryan and John B Griffin too showed some fine skill. Once again, the married players came out on top despite a couple of controversial late penalty decisions by ref Tom Godley. Well done to all. See Photos

Shane Brick receives Christy Ring award 20th Dec '07 Congratulations to Shane Brick who was voted on the 2007 Christy Ring team of the year for his outstanding performances for Kerry. Shane received his award at a function at Crike Park last weekend.

Joe Walsh is first County Hurling Officer 18th Dec '07 Joe Walsh, Lerrig was voted in as Kerry's first hurling officer at the county convention last week. Maurice Fitzgerald had been eliminated after the first count along with Mike Slattery as they had the lowest votes. Joe received a very large percentage of the votes on the night, and he had a comfortable margin over John Canty. Joe will have responsibility for hurling in the county and one of his first duties will be to appoint a new senior hurling manager. Congratulations and best of luck to Joe.

Annual club GAA convention 2nd Dec '07 The clubs' annual hurling club convention was held at the clubrooms on Saturday evening. Over one hundred members were in attendance which is an indication of the level of interest within the community for hurling. There were many discussions and opinions aired but the general concensus was that 2007 had been a very successful year for the Kilmoyley club and 2008 promises even bigger an better things. Work will commence in the next few months on a ball alley and there is a proposal to extend the boundaries and possibly add a new weights room.

There was only one change to the club's officers with Mary Brick, Ballymacandrew being returned as Secretary.

Kilgarvan win Munster junior clash 19th Nov '07 Congratulations to the hurlers of Kilgarvan who had Kerry's first win in the Munster club junior hurling championship. The roughty men overcame Caherline of Limerick by 2-11 to 2-9 in Kenmare. Once again, Mike Foley was star of the day for the winners.

Fitgerald & Walsh in for Hurling Officer 13th Nov '07 Maurice Fitzgerald and Joe Walsh have been nominated by the club as candidates for the upcoming post of County hurling officer which is due to be elected at the county convention. Maurice has years of experience as a hurling coach in the county and this year was trainer of the County U21 team, while Joe was trainer and selector of the Kilmoyley senior team, and was also involved in the County U15 team.

Weekend Review 5th Oct '07 There was mixed success for three Kilmoyley teams on a busy day of hurling last Sunday. The loss of a couple of key players proved to be decisive as the under 15s were beaten by Ballyduff by 2 points in the North Kerry championship in Causeway. The under 10s were also beaten by Lixnaw in a tournament game in a game played after Lixnaw's Munster championship defeat to Tulla. But the Intermediates ended their year on a high note as they ran out convincing winners over Ladies Walk in the final of the north Kery championship, with Gerald Carroll proving to be Kilmoyley's best player on the day.
The Seniors are due to play Bride Rovers in the Munster League but there has been no fixture to date. They must have been frustrated at last Sunday's game in Lixnaw, as they would have felt that they could have put up a better performance. And with the fact that Ballyduff Upper are Tullas next opponents at home (Kilmoyley beat them in the Munster League in July)it certainly is a case of what might have been. But there's always next year!

Mixed joy for Kilmoyley 8th Oct '07 Kilmoyley's David Fitzell became the first Kilmoyley captain in seven years to lift the Sean Lovett cup following the minors comprehensive victory over Ballyheigue on Sunday and claiming their twelvth minor title in the process. But there was no such joy for the Seniors who could only manage 2-6 against a Lixnaw side who were more determined in their play. The fact that there was only a puck of the ball in it at the end was disappointing but Kilmoyley can have few complaints as they failed to play anywhere near their potential. Congratulations to Lixnaw who now meet the Clare champions at home in the first round of the Munster club championship. Match Reports

County Finals Preview 6th Oct '07 Sunday 7th October is an historical day for the parish with the Senior and Minor teams playing in the respective county finals. Captains David Fitzell and Billy Brick will attempt to complete the double for the first time since 1964 when Michael Rahilly captained the minors and Mick Regan captained the seniors. We will also be looking for our 21st Senior title to join Ballyduff at the top of the table while the minors are in search of their 12th title. Both sides have no major injury worries and the teams will almost certainly be at full strength.
The Seniors will also probably start with the same team that defeated Ballyheigue in the semi-final although there may be a few positional switches. A lot of focus will centre on Shane Brick who has been Kilmoyley's main scorer in the championship over the past few years. But there will also be much attention on Lixnaw's Paul Galvin's attempt to win the treble this year, as he also seeks a county football medal in two weeks time on top of his All-Ireland football medal. Anthony Daly is sure to have the Kilmoyley boys very focused despite their favourites tag and if they play as well as their Ballyduff performane they certainly have a great chance. BEST OF LUCK TO BOTH TEAMS!

Minors reach County Final 23rd Sept '07 Our minors ensured that Kilmoyley will have double representation on County Final day when they defeated Ballyduff 1-6 to 0-5 in the semifinal of the championship at Causeway last Saturday. A late goal by Andy McCarthy secured the win and set up a final clash with Ballyheigue who defeated Crotta in the second semi. Match Report

20,000 VISITORS 8th Sept '07 The kilmoyleygaa.com website has received over 20,000 hits since it was created in December 2002. Thanks to everyone for all the interest, and don't forget to tell all your friends.

Kilmoyley reach County Final 10th Sept '07 Congratulations to Kilmoyley's senior who qualified for their fifth county hurling final in seven years, and will meet Lixnaw for the third time in six years in the final. In a disappointing semi-final Kilmoyley overcame an injury hit Ballyheigue side by 1-15 to 2-2 on Sunday at Austin Stack park. While Kilmoyley never reached the level of play as they did against Ballyduff in the quarter final, the game was effectively over at half time as Kilmoyley led by nine points, conceding only one score in the process. Lixnaw overcame Causeway in their semi-final by 1-15 to 2-8, edging in front in the final quarter. It promises to be an exciting affair which brings Clare's Anthony Daly and Limerick's Eamon Cregan head to head. Match Report

Wedding Bells 8th Sept '07 Congratulations to Kilmoyley hurler Ollie Diggin and Eilish O'Connell of Ardfert who were married in the Church of the Sacred Heart, Kilmoyley on Friday. Ollie will always be remembered as the player who struck Kilmoyley's winning point in the dying moments of the 2001 county hurling final against Ballyheigue. The hurling club wishes them the very best for the future. See Photos

Kilmoyley set for Semi 7th Sept '07 The seniors are set to play neighbours Ballyheigue in the second of this years AIB County championship hurling semi-finals at Austin Stack park this Sunday at 3.30pm. Kilmoyley will be hoping to build on their impressive performance against Ballyduff in the quarterfinal, and reach their first county final in three years. Kilmoyley have a number of minor injury worries for the game but it is possible that they will line out with the same fifteen that started in the quarter-final. The teams have not met in the county championship since the 2002 semi-final, which Kilmoyley won.
A feature of the first semi-final between Causeway and Lixnaw at 2pm is that both sides are managed by former Limerick hurlers - Ger Hegarty and Eamon Cregan respectively.

Defeat for Intermediates 31st Aug'07 Kilmoyley's Intermediates were beaten by Kilgarvan on Thursday evening in the Intermediate championship quarterfinal. Kilmoyley, who were seven points in arrears at one stage levelled the game, but a few late scores by Kilgarvan sealed the victory. Pat Deenihan was unfairly issued a red card in the closing stages, and one would have to question how a referee who is an officer of the south Kerry hurling hurling board was left in charge of this game. In all there were four red cards shown - two on each side.

Championship Draw 30th Aug'07 Following last weekends games Kilmoyley will meet Ballyheigue in the Championship semi-final next Sunday at 3.30pm. The other semi-final will be between the winners of Abbeydorney and Causeway who will take on Lixnaw.
Ballyheigue had an impressive win over St. Brendans scoring four goals in the process, while Lixnaw had a comfortable victory over Crotta. The last quarterfinal takes place on Saturday 1st September at 4pm. Both semi-finals will be played as a double header at Austin Stack park on Sunday 11th September.

Seniors overcome old rivals 27th Aug'07 Kilmoyley produced a brilliant performance on Saturday evening to beat old rivals ballyduff in the quarter final of the County Senior hurling championship by 2-12 to 0-7. This was without doubt Kilmoyley's best performance for a long number of years in the championship, and to advance past Ballyduff in such a manner was particularly sweet. The team that started pus the subs introduced all contributed to this wonderful win, and Anthony Daly will be well pleased with this effort. The only pity was that it was not the county final and another two top-class performances will be required if Kilmoyley are to regain the Neilus Flynn cup. Match Report

County Championship 25th Aug'07 It's that time of year again when eight parishes of North Kerry take to Austin Stack park for County championship hurling. Kilmoyley are up against old enemies Ballyduff in the second quarter final clash - a repeat of last years semi-final. Kilmoyley will be anxious to beat the team that ended their five-in-a-row hopes in 2005 and defeated them in the 2006 semi-final. Kilmoyley's team will be similar to last years with a few changes. Darren Young is missing but Billy Brick is a welcome addition. Ballyduff will be favourites for this game, meaning that Kilmoyley will be underdogs for the first time in a few years - a tag with which they will not be disappointed. All we can hope is that Anthony Daly will have the boys well tuned in for the game and hopefully we will get the luck that deserted us last year.

Second win for Seniors in Munster League 15th Aug '07 The Seniors edged past Ballyduff Upper of Waterford by two points thanks to an excellent second half display in wet and wintery Ballyclogh on Tuesday evening. Kilmoyley's great record in this competition looks set to continue as they now have two wins from two games. The large number of travelling Kilmoyley supporters must have been cursing their decision at half time to travel as their side put in a very inept performance. Only for the poor conditions and good defensive work, Kilmoyley would certainly have been more than three points in arrears at that stage.
Anthony Daly's words at half time had the desired effect however as Kilmoyley battled and chased for everything, and goals from Shane Brick and Joe Murnane helped Kilmoyley to a great two point win 2-9 to 0-13, and helped in some way for the disappointment of losing last year's MUnster league final to the side side. Match Report

Meyler magic 29th July '07 Former Kilmoyley manager John Meyler continues to weave his magic as his Wexford side upset the odds to defeat Tipperary in the All-Ireland quarter final, and set up another tie with Kilkenny next weekend. Only four weeks ago, Wexford were hammered by next weeks opponents and hurling seemed to be in crisis on Slaneyside, while two weeks ago Tipp celebrated after beating old rivals Cork in their final group game. But Saturday's game showed how teams can be transformed in a short space of time, With Wexford edging it by 3-10 to 1-14 thanks to a late Damien Fitzhenry '21.

Under 10 blitz 28th July '07 The second of the North Kerry hurling board's under 10 blitzes was held at Ardfert on Saturday. The Kilmoyley team gave a very good account of themselves although they didn't qualify for the final. They showed a big improvement in their play from the previous tournament a month ago. Kieran McCarthy gave a great display against eventual the eventual winners Causeway, while captain Emmet Meehan, Robert Collins and Maurice O'Connor also impressed. But they were well supported by Sean Curran, Jessica Fitzell, Fiachra King, David McCarthy, Richard Flaherty, Philip Flaherty, Robert Harrington, Tomas Curran and Eamon Dowling. Well done to all.

Perfect Munster League start for Kilmoyley 27th July '07 Kilmoyley overturned favourites and Limerick champions of 2005 Garryspillane in this first round clash of the Munster league at Lerrig by 2-21 to 3-11. An improved second half display saw the winners stretch their two point half time lead to ten points at one stage but a late penalty from TJ Ryan reduced the deficit. There were many positives to takefrom the game - not least scoring 23 times in blustery conditions. But there is still plenty to be done, and Kilmoyley now face Causeway in the quarterfinal of the North Kerry Championship next Tuesday. Match Report

Upcoming games 26th July '07 Kilmoyley's first game in the 2007 Munster senior hurling league could not have been more difficult as they face 2005 Limerick champions Garryspillane at Lerrig on Thursday. Kilmoyley have been relatively successful in this competition since it commenced in 2002, getting to three finals winning one in 2004. Hopefully they will give another good performance this evening.
Kilmoyley's Under 10s play in the second of the North kerry hurling board blitzs this Saturday in Ardfert. Due to their good performance in the previous blitz in Causeway, Kilmoyley are in the "A" competition against Causeway, Lixnaw, Ballyheigue and St. Brendans. However, they will be up against it but they they should give a good account of themselves.

Seniors win first North Kerry "B" League 20th July '07 Kilmoyley's Senior team defeated causeway in the final of the North Kerry "B" League at Austin Stacks park on Thursday evening in wet condition s by 2-12 to 2-7. It was a final to forget as the terrible weather conditions and poor referreeing resulted in a dour struggle. (More Soon)

Success for U12s 23rd June'07 The U12s finished their year on a high when they defeated Dr. Crokes in the County Div. 3 final at Austin Stack park on Friday by 4-1 to 1-5. In a very entertaining and close fought encounter Kilmoyley got off to the perfect start with two early goals. But the Killarney side applied all the pressure for the remainder of the half scoring 1-4 while Kilmoyley added another "breakaway" goal to end the half four points to the good.
The second half was much the same story as Kilmoyley struggled to cope with their opponents' tenacious play but a fourth goal for Kilmoyley, Niall Meehan's second proved tp be the decisive score, but for some great defending from Paudie O'Connor and Eoin McCarthy it could have been a diferent story. Well done to all.

Good weekend for U12s 4th June'07 The U12s continued their good form of late with some good performances over the weekend. On Friday in the County League they defeated Abbeydorney in their final league game of division 2 and qualified to meet the same opposition next Friday in the semifinal, again at Lerrig. Despite trailing at halftime by 2-1 to no score, Kilmoyley rallied in the second half with the wind at their backs to win by 8-4 to 3-1.
In the North Kerry ten a side "B" ground hurling blitz held at Ballyduff on bank holiday Monday, Kilmoyley won all their four games against Ballyduff, Abbeydorney, Crotta and Duagh to qualify for the final on Tuesday 12th June in Lixnaw where they will face Ballyduff. Notable mentions must go to Orla Young, Lorna Sheehan and captain Rachel McElligott who led by example.

Seniors win County League 2nd June'07 Once again Crotta proved to be difficult opponents on their own turf but Kilmoyley eked out the victory that gave them the title. Crotta led the tie 1-2 to no score after five minutes as the league leaders sttruggled in the wet conditions and the home sides tenacious play. But once James McCarthy scored Kilmoyley's opening goal the side settled, and although they never looked completely convincing at any stage Kilmoyley held out for the win.

Seniors go top of Co League 28th May'07 Following the weekend results, the Kilmoyley seniors find themselves top of Division 1 of the County league without pucking a ball. Kilmoyley received a walkover from St. Brendans last Thursday to put them on top with an extra game played. But Abbeydorney's failure to win against Ballyheigue means that Kilmoyley will be crowned champions if they can defeat Crotta in their final game this coming weekend. Crotta too were in contention up until the last two games but they have struggled since. In the other fixtures Ballyduff easily overcame Lixnaw while Causeway beat Crotta.

No opposition for Kilmoyley teams 24th May'07 The Senior and Intermediate teams had no games this week due to the failure of St. Brendans and Crotta to field teams. The Seniors final game of the league is next weekend againt Crotta. The U12s travel to Killorglin this Saturday to play Laune Rangers in their second game of the County league.

Munster hurling title for Kerry school 20th May'07 It's rare that a Kerry secondary school other than Causeway Comprehensive wins a Munster hurling but such was the case on Friday when schoil Gaelcholaiste Tralee defeated Passage west in the U16 "C" competition by 2-13 to 3-9. An interesting feature of the team is that four of the team plus one sub that was introduced are from the Castlegregory, Castleisland and Currow clubs while an additional four players are from Austin Stacks. Well done to all and to former Kerry coach Eddie Murphy who trained the team.

Seniors win in County League 19th May'07 Kilmoyley kept up the pressure at the top of Division 1 of the County league with a 1-7 to 0-3 win over Causeway in Lerrig on Friday evening. The game was played in a strong gale which resulted in many wides from both sides. Despite the low scoring this was an entertaining game which put Kilmoyley at the top of the league by 1 point with an extra game played. Next up is St. Brendans next Thursday. Match Report

Productive evening for Kilmoyley teams 17th May'07 The Intermediates and U12s had convincing wins over Ballyheigue and Dr. Crokes respectively at Lerrig on Wednesday evening. Both games were played in terrible weather conditions and as a result scoring was low. The U12s were always in control and ended 2-5 to 0-1 winners while the Intermediates won by 3-6 to 1-3.

U16s win first title since '99 16th May'07 Kilmoyley's U16s had a convincing 5-12 to 3-6 win over Ballyduff on Tuesday evening in Lixnaw to capture their first North Kerry league title since 1999. More Soon

Two in a row for U11s 9th May'07 The U11s ended their league campaign with a convincing second win over Crotta at Lerrig. Kilmoyley were always in control of the game and three first half goals by Shane Monahan helped them to a big lead. The goals continued in the second half with Eoin McCarthy, Tomas Walsh, Emmet Meehan and Jordan Brick also getting on the scoresheet. Unfortunately, following two earlier defeats to ballyduff and Abbeydorney, Kilmoyley are depending on other results to qualify for the final in two weeks time.

First win for U11s 6th May'07 The U11s enjoyed their first win of the year with an exciting 4-4 to 3-2 win over Duagh on Saturday. The lead changed hands on a number of occassions throughout the game but a late goal by Jordan Brick sealed Kilmoyley's win. Kilmoyley still have an outside chance of qualifying for the final but rely on other results. Scorers for Kilmoyley Jordan Brick 2-3, Robert McElligott & Darren Godley 1-0 each, Eoin McCarthy 0-1. Final game this Tuesday against Crotta in Lerrig.
Meanwhile the U14s travelled to Kilgarvan on Friday evening to play Kenmare in the county league but were beaten by a much stronger team.

Big win for Seniors over Ballyheigue 7th May '07 It's been a long time since any team in Kerry scored 3-21 but the Kilmoyley seniors managed it on Friday eveing against Ballyheigue. However, although Kilmoyley played very well at stages during this county league clash, Ballyheigue actually led after twenty minutes of the game, and had some of their players received not received injuries the game could have turned out differently. All Kilmoyley's forwards scored but Sean Maunsell in particular did very well. Final score Kilmoyley 3-21 Ballyheigue 2-11. Match Report

Intermediates qualify for NKL final 30th Apr '07 Kilmoyley's Intermediates had a convincing 4-17 to 1-7 win over St. Brendans in Ardfert in the first semifinal of the North Kerry league played on Sunday afternoon. Kilmoyley await the outcome of the second semi between Ballyheigue and Ladys Walk.

Edward is a Fresher winner 26th Apr '07 Congratulations to Kilmoyley's Edward Fitzgerald who won an All-Ireland hurling fresher title with Mary Immaculate College, Limerick against UCC on Wednesday playing at wingback. Edward was the only Kerry player on the team. Edward also coaches Under 8s and 10s in Kilmoyley at the weekends.

U14s fail in treble bid 23rd Apr '07 Kilmoyley's U14s were unable to qualify for the semi final stages of this year's Féile na nGael competition. They were always going to be up against it as they were missing a number of players through injury and sickness. They were also unfortunate in that they played their toughest game against Ballyduff first and were somewhat demoralised playing St. Brendans next in their must win game. Most supporters felt that this game ended in a draw but it subsequently transpired that Kilmoyley had lost by a point. The Kilmoyley boys played well in their final game against Kenmare winning by 3-3 to 1-1, but it was Ballyduff and St. Brendans that progressed.Match Reports soon

It's Féile na nGael time 20th Apr '07 Kilmoyley go into this weekends competition seeking an unprecedented third title in a row. Two groups of four teams play at two different venues, with each team playing three games each. Kilmoyley play Ballyduff, St. Brendans and Ballyduff at Ardfert while the other group games take place in Causeway. The draw has yet to be made for the groups and the first game takes place at 2.30.The top two teams from each group qualifies for the semi-finals which takes place on Sunday. Best of luck lads.

U11s suffer heavy defeat 17th Apr '07 Two five minute periods in both halves changed the outcome of this game as Kilmoyley conceded a handful of goals to put the result beyond doubt. Even though it was evident from early on that Kilmoyley were struggling to compete with a much physically stronger Abbeydorney side, they kept hurling througout the game and were rewarded with a score of 3-2, 2-1 of which came from Kieran McCarthy. But there were also good performances from Robert Collins, Emmet Mehan, Eoin McCarthy, Jordan Brick and Orla Young who tried hard. Next up is Ballyduff next Tuesday at Lerrig.

Seniors back on track 16th Apr '07 The Seniors kept their County League hopes alive with a three point win over Ballyduff at Lerrig on Saturday by 0-13 to 0-10. Kilmoyley struggled initially and were five points in arrears after fifteen minutes, but only ended the half two points behind. Kilmoyley's play improved considerably in the second half, and with Sean Maunsell and substitute Shane Brick scoring most of Kilmoyley's eight second half points between them, Ballyduff were up against it. Kilmoyley should have been further ahead only for a second half penalty to be overturned. In the end it was a much improved performance by Kilmoyley. Match Report

U12s go down to seasiders 16th Apr '07 Last Friday evening Kilmoyley's U12s were well beaten by Ballyheigue in the final playoff of the County League. Kilmoyley struggled in the first half to contain their opponents who hurled with plenty of skill, and were much more advanced than the Kilmoyley boys. Three awarded goals to the winners that should have been square ball did not help matters for Kilmoyley. A much better second half display by Kilmoyley saw them play the better hurling, but unfortunately they could not score the goals to narrow the gap sufficiently. They will now play in the "B" competition in a few weeks time.

Intermediates draw in entertaining game 12th Apr '07 Kilmoyley's Intermediates pulled one out of the fire in Wednesdy's NL league fixture with Ballyheigue at Lerrig. Kilmoyley started brightly, leading by seven points to two early on but after conceding two goals found themselves three points in arrears by half time. Try as they might they could not draw level until substitute Ollie Diggin goaled late in the game. There was plenty of good hurling from both sides, with Pat Deenihan, David Fitzell and Adrian Royle playing well for Kilmoyley. TJ Maunsell could not unfortunately repeat his feat of the previous week when he scored 4-4 against Crotta O'Neills. Final scoreline Kilmoyley 1-16 Ballyheigue 3-10. Next game is against Abbeydorney.

No joy for Kerry U16 hurlers 10th Apr '07 Kerry qualified for the final of the Munster Inter-Divisional U-16 Championship with a polished display against Cork Divisional side Muskerry in Lerrig on Easter Monday. They will meet Limerick City in the final next Saturday at 1pm in Bruff, Co Limerick. Kilmoyley players Sean Dowling (3), Conor Fitzelle (11) and Edmund Griffin (15, 0-6,3f) made vital contributions on the starting team while Ray Barrett was introduced as sub. Joe Walsh is a selector for the team.

Seniors lose in County League 10th Apr '07 Kilmoyley went down by 2 points to Abbeydorney in round 2 of the County League despite conceding only 1-8 in ideal hurling conditions. Although the forwards had plenty of possession, they could not convert it to scores and Kilmoyley ultimately paid the price. Match Report

Kerry hurlers return to form 2nd Apr '07 Despite having only seventeen players available, the Kerry Senior hurlers recorded an encouraging ten point win away to Kildare in the Allianz NHL. As a result, Kerry will now play Laois in the quarter final, a fixture that seemed highly unlikely a number of weeks ago. Colin Harris was Kilmoyley's only representative on the team as three goals helped Kerry to the win. Final score 3-9 to 0-8.

U21s win 2006 County Championship 24th Mar '07 A superb display of hurling and determination saw underdogs Kilmoyley overturn a highly fancied St. Brendans outfit to capture the 2006 County U21 hurling Championship and the first for the club since 1998. Down by 2 points with ten minutes to go, the signs were far from encouraging for Kilmoyley, and it was expected that St. Brendans superior fitness would carry them through. But the Kilmoyley boys did not read the script and finished the stronger scoring a goal and three points to St. Brendans' two. There were jubilant scenes at the end as captain Tom Murnane received the cup, and Kilmoyley celebrated a win that was as good as any in the past. Match Report Later

Local hurling action 20th Mar '07 Kilmoyley's Seniors got their domestic season off to a winning start with a hard fought 1-7 to 0-8 win over Lixnaw. The poor weather conditions over the previous few days forced the game to be moved from Lixnaw to Ballyduff, and with the game played on the open "upper" field, a strong wind blew down the field turing the match into a game of two halves. Match Report

Domestic hurling season begins 9th Mar '07 The Kerry club hurling programme gets under way this Sunday with three games being played in the County League. Kilmoyley's first game is away to Lixnaw at 12pm. Abbeydorney host Causeway while Crotta O’Neills are at home to Ballyheigue. The game between St. Brendans and Ballyduff is postponed until Monday 19th March due to the Ardfert footballers involvement in the All-Ireland Intermediate final this Saturday.

Ardfert footballers seek greater glory 9th Mar '07 Best wishes to the Ardfert footballers who play Eoghan Ruadh of Derry in the All-Ireland Intermediate Club final under lights at Croke Park this Saturday at 8pm. It has been a fantastic journey for the team over the last five years, with a meteoric rise from the depths of division five of the county league to division one, and two All-Ireland finals. Denis McCarthy and Johnny Stack from Kilmoyley are on the panel.

Higgins sinks Kerry in NHL rd. 2 5th Mar '07 The 2006 young footballer of the year Keith Higgins proved to be the difference between Kerry and Mayo scoring seven second half points to give Kerry their first defeat of the NHL campaign. It was always going to be a tricky assignment for Kerry, and a poor first half performance with a strong wind did not help matters. Kilmoyley's Colin Harris and Tom Murnane lined out in the half back line for the first time, but the absense of Shane Brick was notable as Kerry only managed two second half points from frees. The game was already over before Paul Broderick of Mayo did a John O'Shea on it to score a goal in injury time for Mayo and seal their first win of the campaign.
Meanwhile John Meyler got Wexford's league campaign up and running with a gritty performance against a Clare outfit that seemed short of match practice. Five late unanswered points for Wexford handed them a two point victory which seemed unlikely as the game entered the final quarter. Sunday Sport was interesting as Kilmoyley manager Anthony Daly gave his views on Clare, the team that had been taken over from him and Wexford, the team that is now managed by a man that Daly took over from at club level!

Walsh gets the vote 5th Mar '07 Kerry county Board Chairman Sean Walsh is the new Munster Council vice-chairman beating off the challenge of three former county chairmen. After spending ten years as County Board chairman Walsh will resign from the post this year. As Vice Chairman of the Council Walsh will have responsibility for Coaching and Games Development, a position which carries a great deal of responsibility in the formation, development and implementation of coaching initiatives and games development in the province. He will serve a three-year term of office as Vice Chairman.

There hasn't been a football team in the club in 25 years when there was an U12 team. In charge of the U14s will be Joe Walsh (Lerrig), James Savage, Phil Crowe, and John Culloty while Mossy Lawlor and Gerry Horan take charge of the U12s.

Winning start for Kerry hurlers 19th Feb '07 Kerry overcame a strong London challenge to take victory in their first game of the 2007 Allianz NHL at Tralle on Sunday. Kilmoyley had no player on the team as Shane Brick was out with an injury. Kerry only led by 1 point at halftime, but a strong late finish helped secure the win on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-13. Kerry play Mayo away in round 2 in two weeks time.
Meanwhile in Wexford, John Meyler's league campaign got off to a bad start as Waterford easily defeated the home side 1-23 to 1-13. Next up for wexford, Kilkenny who could only manage a draw with Dublin.

No second munster title for Kilmoyley ...yet 12th Feb '07 The Kilmoyley Seniors could not reproduce the form that saw them beat Bride Rovers seven days earlier as they went down 0-16 to 1-9 to a Ballyduff Upper team of Waterford that were clearly fitter and sharper on the day. Once again a slow start by Kilmoyley saw them trail early on by 0-7 to 0-2 playing with the breeze, and while Kilmoyley gained and held the lead heading into the final quarter, the early exertions of getting back into the game eventually took its toll as Ballyduff finished the stronger. So although there was disappointment in the end, there were still enough encouraging signs on the day for the Kilmoyley supporters to be hopeful for the coming season. Match Report

All-Ireland club final pairing decided 12th Feb '07 Toomevara of Tipperary were left reeling on Saturday as they threw away a twelve point lead to hand Ballyhale of Kilkenny a place in the All-Ireland club hurling final on St. Patrick's day going down by 2-20 to 3-14 in an epic game of hurling. The game also saw 2001 hurler of the year Tommy Dunne end his career in Zidane fashion with a red card.
The second semi was a tamer affair which saw Loughrea of Galway edge out Cushendall of Antrim thanks to a last minute goal. In 1997 Kilmoyley defeated the same Loughrea side in an 11-a-side competition in Carlow!

Four in running for Munster Vice Chairmanship 8th Feb '07 Former Cork County Board chairman Jim Forbes has been nominated by his board to challenge for the position if Vice Chairperson of the Munster Council. Munster League Final on Saturday 7th Feb '07 Kilmoyley will play Ballyduff Upper of Waterford this Saturday in Ballingarry, Limerick in the final of the 2006 Munster hurling league. This will only be Kilmoyley's second game of the year and the lack of training and fitness will surely be a concern. So too will the loss of James McCarthy (suspension) and Noel Whelan (injury), as they played vital roles in Kilmoyley's win over Bride Rovers last weekend.

Third Munster League Final for Kilmoyley 5th Feb '07 In what was one of their best performances in the past few years, the Kilmoyley Seniors advanced to their third Munster League final in six years by defeating Bride Rovers of Cork by 2-14 to 2-11 in a cracking encounter. Despite their lack of training and fitness, the Kilmoyley players showed more hunger and determination throughout the game and converted more of their scoring opportunities. the final is due to take place next week against Ballyduff of Waterford. (Match Report)

Munster league Semi for Kilmoyley 2nd Feb '07 The Kilmoyley Seniors play in their third consecutive Munster Senior League semi-final this Sunday when they take on Bride Rovers of Cork in a repeat of last years semifinal. The game takes place in Lerrig at 1pm.

Congratulations to new club President John Patrick Maunsell of Lerrig, whose name was picked from a hat of names of the surviving members of the 1948 Senior County championship winning team. Anthony Daly of Clare was also voted in as new Senior trainer for the coming year to succeed John Meyler who was seven years at the helm. Kilmoyley Annual hurling club Social 22nd Jan '07 Ballygarry House was the venue of the Kilmoyley hurling club social. Despite numbers being well down, a great night was enjoyed by all. The Senior team was presented with its 2006 north Kerry league medals by County Board PRO Willie O'Connor. A special presentation was made to new Wexford manager John Meyler for his contribution to the hurling club and parish since June 2000. Always a good man for a few words, John thanked the people of the parish for their generosity, goodwill and assistance over the years in hepling to make his time in the club a memorable and enjoyable one. In his time at the helm with the club, Meyler was responsible for capturing four county Senior championships, five county leagues, seven North Kerry leagues, one north Kerry championship, one Munster Senior league and two Oireachtas titles. He was also involved in the successful winning Intermediate teams as well as helping at underage level. Kerry off to promising 2007 start 22nd Jan'07 Lerrig provided the venue for Kerry's first competitive outing in 2007 aginst Clare in terrible weather conditions on Sunday. As the scoreline of Clare 1-5, Kerry 0-6 suggests, both defences were well on top as both sets of forwards found the conditions of a biting wind and driving rain very difficult to score in. Kerry led for most of the first half but Clare scored a couple of late points to edge in front at the break 5-4. Clare's goal came at the very start of the second half and it looked like they might pull away. But the Kerry defence held the men from the Banner scoreless for the remainder of the game, and with a couple of points added themselves Kerry had every chance of winning but couldn't add to their score. This was an encouraging start to the year for Kerry and it is hoped this momentum can be contued for the National league campaign.
Shane Brick was Kilmoyley's sole starter and was Kerry's top scorer on 4 points, with Tom Murnane introduced as a sub.

Daly set to be unveiled as Kilmoyley Manager 15th Dec '06 Double All-Ireland winning captain Anthony Daly is set to be announced as Klmoyley's new Senior hurling manager. The former Clare hurling manager of the past three years had previously assisted the Kilmoyley minor team in their preparation of the County final last October, and is now due to take over at Senior level. However, his appointment is dependant on getting total cooperation from the players, and if this is not forthcoming there may be a different story.

Daly brings and unprecedented level of experience to the club both as a player and manager, and there is certainly renewed hope within the parish of future success following the departure of John Meyler who has taken up the reigns as Wexford manager.
Kilmoyley Seniors are due to play Bride Rovers in the semi-final of the Munster league this Sunday at Lerrig, when Daly is set to meet the players. Read Kerryman Report of 11th Jan '07

Kilmoyley U21s reach County Final 4th Dec '06 Kilmoyley enjoyed a good win over Crotta O'Neills on Saturday to advance to the county U21 hurling final on a scoreline of 4-6 to 1-5. Played in terrible weather conditions in Ballyheigue, Kilmoyley struggled in the first half against the wind and only managed 1 point. But right from the start of the second half Kilmoyley presurised their opponents and 4 goals from four different players helped them to their win. (Match Report)

Toomevara win Munster club title 4th Dec '06 Toomevara of Tipperary were crowned Munster club champions following their 2-9 to 2-8 win over Erins Own of Cork at the Gaelic Grounds yesterday. Despite the terrible conditions, an entertaining game was served and for long periods it looked as if the Cork side were going to capture their first Munster title. But the introduction of Eoin Brislane helped to bring the winners back into contention, and a controversial late '65 gave them victory.

Five legends of the Ash who retired in '06 15th Nov '06
DJ Carey (Kilkenny) He announced his retirement before this year's championship after 16 seasons with Kilkenny. He leaves a legacy of brilliant goals and many moments of genius.
Brian Whelahan (Offaly) Devoted himself slavishly to Offaly even when the good times were over. Made his debut in 1989 while still a minor and was named 'hurler of the year' in 1994 and 1998, winning All Star awards as both a defender and forward.
Brian Lohan (Clare) Signalled the end of his career after Clare's All-Ireland semi-final defeat to Cork. At the peak of his powers between 1995 and 1997, he was almost impenetrable at full-back and was still hurling strong up to this season.
Seanie McMahon (Clare) Like Lohan, he was a pillar of the great Clare defence that shaped the 1990s, while his long range free-taking was priceless for Clare.
Brian Corcoran (Cork) Hurler of the year at 19 in his debut season, 1992, he was a forceful presence for Cork during the 1990s and finally won an All-Ireland in 1999. He embellished the legend by coming out of self-imposed exile to win two more All-Ireland medals (2004 and 2005) as a forward.

Ballyduff go down to Toomevara 6th Nov '06 Ballyduff were beaten by Tipperary champions Toomevara in the QF of the Munster club championship by 3-16 to 3-6. Despite a good second half performance by the home side, the game was effectively over at half time, as Toomevara scored two quick goals just before the break to leave the score 2-12 to 0-3. Ballyduff reduced the deficit to nine points with ten minutes remaining but a third goal by the visitors ended any hopes of a comeback.
Meanwhile, Wolfe Tones of Clare had an easy 1-14 to 0-5 win over Bruree of Limerick in the other club championship quarter final.

Club President Mickey McGrath dies 28th Oct'06 The club lost one of its greatest members with the passing away of club President Mickey McGrath at the age of 88. Mickey captained Kilmoyley in 1948 from the fullback position and he also went on to train the Kilmoyley three in a row teams of '62-'64 and later the Kerry Senior hurling team. He was also instrumental in the purchasing of Páirc Naomh Eirc in Lerrig in 1984 and was club President up to the time of his death.

Although he was unable to travel to hurling matches over the past few years, his love and interest in the game never waned, and his memory and story telling ability could bring listeners back to days of folklore and legends like no other. He truly was a legend himself. Ní bheidh a leitheád ann arís.

Change of Kerry hurling Manager 20th Oct'06 Maurice Leahy has been appointed as the latest Kerry Senior hurling boss following discussions with the hurling clubs. Leahy who takes over from Gerry Molyneux, has already had a number of terms as manager with some success, most recently in 2003 when Kerry had its most successful run ever in the championship, ending with that famous "defeat" to Limerick in Tralee.

Meyler to take over Wexford hurlers 12th Oct'06 Congratulations to Kilmoyley senior trainer John Meyler, who is to be ratified as the new Wexford senior hurling boss at the Wexford county board meeting tonight. Meyler who originally hails from Wexford will take over from Seamus Murphy who was in charge for just one year.

Heavy Defeat for Minors 7th Oct'06 The Kilmoyley minors suffered a big defeat at the hands of St. Brendans in the Minor County championship final at Austin Stack park on a scoreline of 2-12 to 0-5. Only a handful of the players played to their potential and it was a very disappointing performance considering the big effort put in by everyone over the last few weeks.Match Report later

Meanwhile, the Seniors' poor run continued on Sunday when they were beaten by Lixnaw at Lerrig by 1-16 to 1-7 in the county league. They have one game remaining in the league and must score at least a draw to qualify for the final.

Mixed weekend for Kilmoyley teams 25th Sept '06 Kilmoyley had three teams in action over the weekend with differing results. On Saturday evening the minors qualified for the championship final with a comfortable win over Abbeydorney in Ardfert by 1-12 to 0-7. This was a good all round team performance but they will still need to improve their performance if they are to beat St. Brendans in the final in two weeks time.
In the first game of a double bill in Causeway on Sunday, the under 14s looked out of sorts as they were well beaten by Ballyduff in the County final although they did get a few late scores.
The Seniors seemed to be in the same frame as the U14s as they too went down rather tamely to Ballyduff again in the semi-final of the North Kerry championship. Kilmoyley never looked threatening throughout the game and went down by 1-15 to 1-9.

Defeat for U13s 16th Sept '06 Kilmoyley's U13 team lost to Causeway in the North Kerry hurling final in Lixnaw on Friday evening by 1-5 to 1-3. Despite leading for most of the game, Causeway seemed to be the stronger team but could not convert their chances, thanks also to some great defending from Vincent and Coleman Savage and Luke Fitzell. But with only five minutes remaining, Causeway goaled from a 21 metre free and stretched their advantage to two points with time almost up. It was a good effort by the Kilmoyley boys and they cannot be faulted for their effort.

Meanwhile, Ballyduff's Mike Hennessy bowed out of championship hurling in style by leading the club to victory over Causeway in the Senior final by 1-17 to 1-11. Semi-Final defeat for Seniors 26th August'06For the second year in a row Kilmoyley found themselves second best to Ballyduff in the senior county championship. But yet again, the game was there for the taking although Kilmoyley were far below their best. However, the game seemed to be going to plan to half time when the game was tied and Kilmoyley had the advantage of a slight breeze for the secind half. But Kilmoyley could only score three points to Ballyduff's six for the final thirty minutes. Ballyduff brought an extra player back to pack their defense and this tactic worked well as the Kilmoyley forwards were offered little time and room on the ball to make any headway. Ballyduff on the otherhand only attacked sporadically, but made the most of theri posession. The fact that only one Kilmoyley forward from ten (four subs were introduced in attack)scored during the game tells its own story.

Injury worries for seniors 25th August '06 The Kilmoyley Seniors carry a number of injuries into this weekend's AIB Senior County championship semi-final against Ballyduff. Seniors to meet Ballyduff in semi-final 13th August '06 Despite playing poorly, the Senior advanced to the county championship semi-final where they will meet old rivals Ballyduff. Crotta provided tough opposition and with only five minutes remaining the game still hung in the balance. But a goal and a point from Joe and Maurice Murnane in the space of thirty seconds finally decided the game in Kilmoyley's favour. But there will need to be a big improvement in their performance if they are to overturn last year's defeat to Ballyduff.

In the other quarter-finals Causeway beat Ballyheigue by a single point by 1-7 to 0-9 on Friday, thanks to goal from a late JM Dooley free. Ballyduff had a surprisingly easy 0-11 to 1-5 win over last years champions Lixnaw, while St. Brendans and Abbeydorney drew in an exciting finish.

Narrow win for Seniors in County league 24th July'06 A goal from a last minute free by Shane Brick helped Kilmoyley to a narrow one point win over neighbours Causeway in the County League. The pitch in Causeway was very hard and rough and made playing conditions more difficult. Kilmoyley welcomed back Shane Brick after a lengthy layoff following a knee operation. There was little between the teams in the first quarter, but a goal by Joseph O'Sullivan edged Kilmoyley into the lead. But Causeway kept in touch with a number of soft frees. The second half followed a similar pattern but the game was very much stop/start. Causeway went in front with a few minutes to go, but the last minute free gave Kilmoyley the win. (More Soon)

Kerry hurlers retain Christy Ring status 24th July'06 Kerry defeated a very poor Roscommon outfit in the Christy Ring Relegation final at Ennis last Saturday in front of 7 spectators! It has been a long and unprofitable year for the hurlers, especially since the commencement of the championship in which Kerry failed to win a single group game, losing out to Kildare, Wicklow, Mayo and Carlow. However, the retention of Christy Ring status ensures that the county has not gone backwards from last year, at least in terms of the competitions to be played.

The Seniors played St. Brendans on Saturday in the Lee Strand sponsored Abbeydorney 11s of Kerry, and ran out winners in an ill-tempered affair by five points 1-11 to 0-9. They were due to play Ballyduff in the semi-final but they failed to field a team, so Kilmoyley went straight into the final. The final against the home side was an exciting affair and Kilmoyley led at half time by 2-6 to 1-3 having played with the breeze. Tom and joe Murnane scored the goals. Abbeydorney scored 1-1 inside a minute and kept up the pressure as the Kilmoyley forwards found it difficult to score. U12s win North Kerry Blitz 12th June'06 Kilmoyley overcame Causeway in the post-poned NK 10-a-side ground hurling blitz at Lixnaw by 3-4 to no score. Although Kilmoyley had easily beaten the same opposition earlier in competition, there was little to choose between the teams early on. In fact, if it were not for two great saves from keeper Paudie O'Connor Kilmoyley would have found themselves behind early on. But Kilmoyley's midfield of captain Dougie Fitzell and Daniel Collins began to get on top and a long ball to James Murphy was flicked to the net to open the score. He added a point from a free to leave Kilmoyley 1-1 to nil ahead to the break.
Kilmoyley never looked in trouble in the second half and only for some great saves by the Causeway keeper would have been well ahead. But the pressure eventually told and Coleman Savage scored three wonderful points from frees and sidelines to give the winners a comfortable lead. Kilmoyley added two more goals to give them a well deserved win. Joe Walsh, on behalf of the North Kerry board presented captain Dougie Fitzell with the trophy and the Kilmoyley players were treated to a meal after.Well done to trainers Paul McCarthy and Brendan Harris. The Seniors meanwhile didn't have it as easy with five first team players unavailable. The strong wind made for a "game of two halves" with Kilmoyley trailing by five points at the break. Causeway actually stretched their lead to six points but an immediate goal from Joe Murnane cut the deficit once again. It wasn't until the final ten minutes that Kilmoyley pulled clear and clocked up a score of 1-18, which in the conditions was good scoring. Tom Murnane was the main scorer, putting over some excellent frees. They now advance to the semi-final.

Upcoming events at Lerrig 31st May '06The reputation of Kilmoyley's sportsfield at Lerrig was enhanced even further with the announcement this week that the field will host the County cfootball championship tie between St. Brendans and Austin Stacks. It was felt that the field in Ardfert would not have the capacity to hold an expected big attendance, while Lerrig also has a stand for supporters.

Meanwhile this Saturday sees Kilmoyley hosting an under 10s hurling tournament between six clubs, including the Faughs club from Dublin. It will also feature a skills competition with two players from each club taking part. Seniors advance to NKL final 14th May '06It wasn't pretty, but Kilmoyley edged past Ballyduff at Lerrig in the North Kerry Senior hurling league where they will meet Ballyheigue for the second year in a row. Following the previous night's heavy rain underfoot conditions were wet which did not allow for free flowing hurling. At one stage Kilmoyley led by six points but some poor defensive lapses allowed Ballyduff back into the game. In the end, Kilmoyley held out for a two point win on a score of 2-7 to 2-5.

Under 14s retain Feile County title 1st May'06 The Kilmoyley U14s retained the Kerry Feile na Gael title in a thoroughly entertaining and exciting final at Abbeydorney against Ballyduff before a large crowd. Kilmoyley played with a stiff breeze in the first half and after soaking up some early Ballyduff pressure, scored two goals inside a minute to lead at half time by 2-3 to 0-1. As expected, Ballyduff applied the pressure from the throw in, but once again Kilmoyley's defence held firm even if they conceded a number of points from close-in frees.
The Kilmoyley nerves were settled once again when they pointed a free. But there was to be a grandstand finish, when the Ballyduff full- forward (who had played in goals in the first half) scored an excellent individual goal to leave only three points between the teams with five minutes remaining. But once gain, the Kilmoyley defence stood firm with corner back Sean Nolan making some excellent clearances. As the Ballyduff defence pushed forward, the Kilmoyley forwards had more room to work an excellent goal, and added a second goal inside the minute again to finish off the game as time was up. Well done to all. (Match Report)

Kerry hurlers disappoint in League decider 30th April '06It proved to be a step too far for the Kerry Senior hurlers in Thurles on Sunday as they were comfortably beaten by Dublin in the Allianz NHL Div 2 final by 0-17 to 1-6. Getting seven scores over 70 minutes tells its own story, but overall Dublin were better throughout, although Colin Harris, Aidan Boyle and keeper PJ O'Gorman were some of the better players on show.
