U21 ARE COUNTY CHAMPIONS 4th Dec'11 Kilmoyley U21s are the 2011 county champions following a superb end of year 1-9 to 0-9 win over Kenmare at Austin Stack park on Saturday in very soft underfoot conditions. Playing with the breeze in the first half, Kilmoyley started well and thanks to a Dougie Fitzell goal, led by 1-5 to 0-2 at the break. Kenmare applied the pressure on the resumption and had the lead down to 3 points. But man of the match Daniel Collins steadied the ship with a super long range point to settle matters. Conor Fitzell left the field with a serious injury, but is thankfully making a good recovery.
Well done and congratulations to the players on a brilliant effort. (Full Match Report)
u21S READY FOR FINAL 29th Nov'11 Kilmoyley's U21s take on Kenmare in the 2011 county hurling final at Austin Stack park, Tralee this Saturday at 2pm. Kilmoyley have only played one game in the competition, their semi final win over Ballyduff. While Kenmare, who also have players from Kilgarvan, Dr. Crokes and Glenflesk are playing their fourth game having had comprehensive wins over Causeway, Abbeydorney and Crotta O'Neills. Kenmare will be favourites to take the title but Kilmoyley have plenty of talent to cause an upset. MURNANE LINES OUT FOR IRELAND 31st Oct'11 Congratulations to Tom Murnane who was on the Irish Shinty team who defeated Scotland in the second international game at Inverness last Saturday on a scoreline of 2-9 to 1-11 and win the series overall by six points. Tom played at wing back and gave an excellent account of himself, lining out beside Tipperary's Brendan Maher.(See Photos)
U15s GO DOWN IN FINAL 30th Oct'11 Kilmoyley's U15s were defeated by Ballyduff in the final of the Tom Healy memorial 9-a-side blitz in Abbeydorney on Friday. But it was a wonderful achievement to qualify for the decider following their 2-4 to 0-2 win over Ballyheigue in the semi final. Played in wet conditions, Kilmoyley dominated from the start but found it difficult to score against a tough Ballyheigue defence. But goals from Mark Lynch and Robert Collins gave Kilmoyley the advantage to the end. In the final played shortly after, Kilmoyley struggled from the outset to get into the game as Ballyduff's first half tactics against the wind paid dividends. Ballyduff continued to dominate in the second half although Kilmoyley tried their best to the end. It was a comfortable win for Ballyduff in the end, and their captain John Hussey received the trophy from County hurling coach and tournament organiser Maurice Leahy. But the Kilmoyley players can be very pleased with their efforts in this tournament and look forward to better days in the future. SENIORS BOW OUT OF LEAGUE TAMELY 23rd Oct'11 The senior team team were defeated in the semi final of the county league with a tame display against Ballyheigue in very wet conditions in Lerrig on Sunday. The sea siders showed more enthusiasm and energy throughout the field and were worthy winners on a scoreline of Kilmoyley 1-3 Ballyheigue 0-13. They go on to meet the winners of the other semi final between Ballyduff and Abbeydorney.
MINORS TAKE SHIELD TITLE 22nd Oct'11 Well done to Kilmoyley's minors who won the Minor Shield final at Cahersalee on Saturday with a 1-21 to 3-6 victory over Lixnaw. Kilmoyley raced into an early 1-4 to 0-1 lead with Sean Nolan scoring the goal. But, they were pegged back before the break to leave the sides level. The team was switched around, and despite an early second half wobble, Kilmoyley added 14 points in an excellent second half display to win comfortably. Well done to the management team of Maurice Fitzgerald and Brendan McElligott. Team: Luke Fitzell, Niall Meehan, Coleman Savage, Paudie O'Connor, John Godley, David Ryan, James Murphy, Florence McCarthy, Peter Crowe, Daniel Collins, Sean Nolan, Dougie Fitzell, Eoin McCarthy, Vincent Savage, Paudie Godley. subs Jordan Brick, Robert McElligott, Pierse Claffey.
HARTY CUP SIDE GO DOWN 19th Oct'11 There was no luck for the Kerry colleges as they went down to 1-14 to 2-10 to Castletroy in their second round game last Wednesday. Kilmoyley was represented by John Godley, Dougie Fitzell and Daniel Collins (1-1).
TOM DOES THE REFFIN' 16th Oct'11 Well done to Tom Godley who refereed the minor county hurling final between St. Brendans and Ballyheigue and to his team of umpires and lines men. Final score St. Brendans 2-18 Ballyheigue 3-8.
KILMOYLEY HURLERS ARE CORK FOOTBALL CHAMPIONS 16th Oct'11 Congratulations to Kilmoyley hurlers Paul Geaney and Darragh O'Sullivan who won a county football title with UCC on Sunday following their 1-12 to 0-10 win over Castlehaven. They play Monaleen of Limerick in the first round of the Munster championship.
SUPER PERFOMANCES BY U15s 16th Oct'11 Kilmoyley's U15s put in four great performances on Friday evening to top their group in the Tom Healy memorial 9 a-side blitz under lights in Abbeydorney. Kilmoyley made a nervous start but overcame Lixnaw by one point in their first game. Causeway were next up, and in their best performance of the night Kilmoyley won by five points. They easily defeated Crotta next, and faced Dr. Crokes in their final game. Kilmoyley led by six points at half time but were pegegd back to two with a few minutes remaining but two late goals clinched the win. U16s DEFEATED IN NORTH KERRY SHIELD 2nd Oct'11 Kilmoyley were defeated by Ballyduff in the final of the North Kerry league on a scoreline of 5-10 to 2-9. Kilmoyley were as good as their opponents for the majority of the game, but Ballyduff's ability to take their chances proved to be the difference between the sides in the end. There was little to separate the sides in the first half as Kilmoyley trailed 2-3 to 1-4. Despite the obvious difference in size between the sides, Kilmoyley performed tenaciously, but a couple of mistakes cost them two goals. U21s ADVANCE TO SEMI 2nd Oct'11 There was disappointment on Sunday as the county championship quarter final tie against St. Brendans at Ardfert was conceded by the home side who could not field a team.
MINORS DISAPPOINT 17th Sept'11 The minors were second best in their semi final clash with St. Brendans at Austin Stack park on Saturday. Even in the early stages the signs weren't good as Kilmoyley conceded an early goal, and struggled to cope with their opponents physical size. But, even at half time Kilmoyley were still in contention despite trailing by five points as they had the advantage of a nice breeze to come. But a combination of an early St. Brendans goal and a number of poor wides by Kilmoyley gave the winners enough breathing space to the end. Kilmoyley did rally late on, but it was too little too late as the final score read St. Brendans 2-10 Kilmoyley 1-11. MINORS SET FOR SEMI FINAL 16th Sept'11 Kilmoyley take on neighbours St. Brendans in the Keane's Supervalu county championship semi final at Austin Stack park on Saturday at 1pm. Kilmoyley will be up against it as they were comprehensively beaten by the same side in June in the county league. Kilmoyley have no injury worries and will be hoping all players can avoid colds and flus before the game. With three of the team experiencing senior championship action, this will be a bonus for the side and with other experienced players such as Coleman and Vincent Savage and David Ryan Kilmoyley will be hoping to make the final.
ALL IRELAND TICKET DRAWS 13th Sept'11 Congratulations to Brendan Leen, Ballinbrannig, Ballyduff who was the winner of the draw for 2 All Ireland football final tickets plus overnight accommodation at Morans Red Cow Inn. Many thanks to all the ticket sellers and especially to those who bought lines. GOOD DISPLAY FROM U16s 10th Sept'11 The U16s played Lixnaw on Saturday, a day after the sides met in the minor championship. The gale force wind made for a very exciting finish to the game. Kilmoyley played very well and led by 1-7 to nil at the break having had the wind at their backs. It looked good for the home side, when after ten minutes of the second half Lixnaw remained scoreless. But they did what Kilmoyley's minors had done the evening before and finished strongly scoring 3-4 to win by two points. Kilmoyley managed one single point from a free in the second period but were unlucky to have a well taken Mark Griffin goal disallowed. Kilmoyley face Abbeydorney/Crotta in their final game.
MINORS OVERCOME LIXNAW IN QF 9th Sept'11 Kilmoyley's minors advanced to the county championship semi final following a 3-13 to 2-10 win over Lixnaw on Friday . While the players will be pleased with the win, they will know that they must improve if they are to have a chance of overcoming St. Brendans next. Kilmoyley trailed by three points at half time and looked to be in trouble when, after missing a number of frees early in the second half, they conceded a goal and two points to trail by eight. But the players showed great character for the remainder of the game and hurled with great determination to win by six points.
DEFEAT FOR U16s IN NK 4th Sept'11 Kilmoyley's U16s were beaten by Ballyheigue in the first round of the North Kerry league on a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-5. Kilmoyley never really got into the game form the start but they kept trying to the end and outscored their opponents in the final quarter.
LIXNAW ADVANCE TO SEMIS 3rd Sept'11 Kilmoyley's seniors are out of the 2011 championship following a 2-14 to 2-12 defeat to Lixnaw who came from seven points behind at one stage to win. Kilmoyley led by three points at the break and maintained that lead for a time. But Lixnaw dominated the final quarter as Kilmoyley's challenge faded. Lixnaw led by five points as the game moved into the final stages, before a late Adrian Royle goal gave Kilmoyley a chance. But the final whistle was blown on the puckout and Kilmoyley's chance had gone. SENIORS READY FOR QF 2nd Sept'11 Kilmoyley face Lixnaw in the second quarter final of this year's senior championship on Saturday at 6.30pm. Kilmoyley will have to make at least one change from the side that lost to Ballyduff in the last round with Ian Brick unable to start due to a knee injury. However, there is hope that Shane Brick could play some part in the game as he returns from a broken finger. Training has gone well in Kilmoyley over the past few weeks and if they can produce the form they are capable of, they will certainly be in with a great chance of victory. CHAMPIONSHIP FIXTURES CONFIRMED 26th Aug'11 It has been a relatively quiet few weeks for the club with only our U12s in action over that period. But over the coming weeks all teams from U16s to seniors will be in competition. COUNTY LEAGUE TITLE FOR MINORS 15th Aug'11 Well done to Kilmoyley's Minors who defeated Abbeydorney/Crotta in the County league division 3 final at Lerrig on Monday evening on a scoreline of 1-18 to 3-8. The sides were level 8 points apiece at the break after Kilmoyley played into a stiffish breeze, and they then used it to their advantage to open up a seven point lead with ten minutes remaining. But two goals by the visitors brought them back into the game, and only a late surge gave Kilmoyley their victory. Captain Luke Fitzell accepted the trophy from County Board hurling officer Joe Walsh. Best for Kilmoyley were Paudie O'Connor, Vincent Savage, Luke Fitzell and Daniel Collins. Well done to trainers Maurice Fitzgerald and Brendan McElligott for their efforts.
SENIORS DOWN...BUT NOT OUT 13th Aug'11 Our senior will get another chance of claiming the 2011 senior championship despite this loss to Ballyduff at Austin Stack park on Saturday evening. Kilmoyley played with the breeze in the opening half but could not take advantage of it as the sides went in at the break level eight points each. Ballyduff played the better hurling on the restart and opened a five point lead, before Kilmoyley opened their second half account on twenty minutes. They followed this with two further points, but Ballyduff finished the stronger to leave the final score at 0-16 to 0-12. Kilmoyley suffered another injury blow in the first half as James Godley left the field with concussion, but there were many positives to take from the game and Kilmoyley will know that whoever meets them in the next round will have a battle in their hands.
U15s WIN NORTH KERRY "B" LEAGUE 3rd Aug'11 Kilmoyley's U15 hurlers won the North Kerry "B" final against Crotta in Lixnaw on a scoreline of 3-10 to 1-8. Kilmoyley had been beaten in the same final twelve months earlier and were determined to go one better. The winners were slow to start and trailed by a point early on but a goal by Jordan Brick after ten minutes gave Kilmoyley the lead. Sean Curran extended their lead before Crotta added a second point. It was all Kilmoyley for the remainder of the half as they added another 1-7 without reply, the goal coming from corner forward David McCarthy. At the break, Kilmoyley led by 2-8 to 0-2 and looked in control. On the resumption, Kilmoyley's Eoin McCarthy was replaced due to injury. Crotta took control of most sectors of the field but in Robert Collins and Kieran McCarthy, they found two players who were impossible to stop as they maintained Kilmoyley's upperhand. With five minutes remaining, Kilmoyley's lead had been whittled down to just four points as they converted several frees. But up stepped wing forward Sean Curran to score his third point from play and give Kilmoyley additional daylight. With time running out, Jordan Brick latched on to a Kieran McCarthy free to score his second goal and seal the win for Kilmoyley. He added his seventh point a minute later as the game came to an end. Kilmoyley captain Mark Griffin gratefully accepted the Edmund Flahive Memorial Trophy from North Kerry hurling juvenile chairman Mike Leahy. INTERMEDIATES ARE COUNTY CHAMPIONS 28th July'11 CONGRATULATIONS to Kilmoyley's Intermediates who captured the 2011 County Intermediate title with a 1-6 to 0-8 win over Ladys Walk in the final on Thursday evening at Austin Stack park. Despite trailing by three points at half time, and with Andy McCarthy receiving a second yellow two minutes into the second period, Kilmoyley... showed great battling qualities to limit their opponents to just three second half points. A goal by Padraig Regan gave Kilmoyley a great lift going into the final quarter and a point from Pat Flaherty three minutes from time was enough to secure the win. Well done to all players, but Micheal Regan deserves special praise for a Man of the Match performance at full back. Pat Deenihan was a delighted captain receiving the cup from County Board chairman Jerome Conway. Kilmoyley Team and panel: Seamus Regan, Dave Slattery, Micheal Regan, Coleman Savage, Brendan Harris (0-1f), Pat Deenihan, Gavin O'Connor, Sean Dowling (0-1), Tommy Maunsell, Sean Godley, Maurice Murnane (0-1), Patrick Flaherty (0-3), Andy McCarthy, Padraig Regan (1-0), Conor Fitzell. subs Sean Maunsell, Edward Fitzgerald, Jason Fealy, Aidan McCabe, Michael Meehan, Vincent Savage, Gerald Carroll, Sean Flaherty, James Murphy, Joe McElligott, TJ Maunsell. FULL MATCH REPORT and PHOTOS
INTERMEDIATES NEXT UP.... 25th July'11 Our Intermediates will play Ladys Walk in the county championship final this Thursday at 7pm in Austin Stack park. With many of the team having to feature for the seniors last Sunday and acquitting themselves well, it is hoped they can pull off a win over the Ballyduff men.
SENIORS PREVAIL 24th July'11 Kilmoyley's seniors passed their first test of the Garveys senior county championship with flying colours with a 2-20 to 1-8 win over Crotta O'Neills at Austin Stack park on Sunday. Kilmoyley were dealt a blow before the throw in when Tom Murnane was ruled out through injury. But even with six championship debutants in their starting line up, Kilmoyley showed that they will still be a team to be reckoned with this year. Kilmoyley trailed by 1-2 to 0-2 after ten minutes but played well for the remainder of the opening half with well taken goals by Andy McCarthy and Shane Brick to lead 2-10 to 1-6 at the break. Kilmoyley continued to dominate as Crotta's challenge faded, but there was disappointing news as Shane Brick left the field after receiving an unnecessary bad blow to the hand. An open draw involving all first round winners for the quarter finals takes place on Radio Kerry this weekend. Kilmoyley's opponents will be one of either Ballyduff, Abbeydorney or Ballyheigue who all won their first round games. MATCH DETAILS LATER
HURLING CLUB DRAW 19th July'11 The annual Summer draw is taking place over the coming weeks with the first of five draws taking place on Saturday 30th July. There are weekly prizes of €200, €100, €50 and bottle of whiskey. Members of the club's finance committee will be calling to homes in the parish over coming weeks, so your participation is greatly appreciated. The cost is €10 per draw or €50 for a full line.
SENIORS IN CHAMPIONSHIP ACTION 18th July'11 The seniors will be in action in the final first round tie of the county championship on Sunday at 3.30pm in Austin Stack park against Crotta O'Neills. While the side will be going into the competition more in hope than expectation, there is no doubt that that the players will give their best. Although Kilmoyley has only lost twice this year, on both occasions it was to Sunday's opponents and with ten of last year's panel missing this time round for one reason or another, it will be a great achievement for this side to come away with the win. Kilmoyley certainly has plenty of experience, but a number of younger players will be making their debuts as a result of the absentees. We wish both the players and the management team the best of luck as they set out to win title number 23 and no doubt the supporters will be out in large numbers again.
UI5S REACH NK FINAL 18th July'11 Well done to our U15s who have qualified for the North Kerry "B" championship final following their 5-7 to 1-3 victory over neighbours St. Brendans at wet and windy Lerrig on Monday. A win for either side would see them reach the final where Crotta await the winners. The game started 45 minutes late, but thanks to Butch Fealy who travelled at short notice to take charge. Kilmoyley started well as they faced the breeze and had two points from Sean Curran and Robert McElligott early on. St. Brendans replied with a pointed free but a David McCarthy scrambled goal stretched Kilmoyley's lead. Another point for the visitors narrowed the gap but a second McCarthy goal, this time from brother Kieran gave the home side a six point lead. This was added to by third brother Eoin McCarthy before the Ardfert side scored their third point on the stroke of half time. INTERMEDIATES REACK COUNTY FINAL 15th July'11 Well done to Kilmoyley's Intermediates who qualified to meet Ladys Walk in the county championship final tie following an emphatic 2-13 to 1-3 win over Crotta O'Neills at Abbeydorney in last Saturday's semi-final. Kilmoyley dominated throughout, and when Andy McCarthy goaled from a 21 metre free late in the first half to give Kilmoyley a comfortable lead, the result was never in doubt. Team: Seamus Regan, Gavin O'Connor, Micheal Regan, Coleman Savage, David Slattery, Pat Deenihan, Sean Godley, Sean Dowling, Tommy Maunsell, Patrick Flaherty, Maurice Murnane, Andy McCarthy, Edward Fitzgerald, Sean Maunsell, Conor Fitzell. subs Michael Meehan, Sean Flaherty, Jason Fealey,Vincent Savage, James Murphy, Gerald Carroll.
MINORS SEE PLENTY OF ACTION 15th July'11 Last Thursday saw our senior line out for the final time in the group stages of the county league at home to Abbeydorney in a game to decide which team topped the group. It was a lively game throughout as both sides hoped to hit good form before their championship ties the following weekend. However, the game could prove costly to Kilmoyley as they lost Seanie Murnane in the first half with dislocated and broken fingers from a dangerous pull, and will now miss the county championship as a result. There wasn't a great deal of excitement about the game itself, as both defences were on top and there were many stoppages in play. By half time, the visitors led by one point. Kilmoyley made a positive start to the second half with a point from Adrian Royle. But an Abbeydorney goal after five minutes gave them the advantage once again. Kilmoyley battled back and dominated possession for the next twenty minutes leading by two points going into the final minutes. But back came Abbeydorney with two late points to leave the sides tied at the end. Amazingly this was the fourth draw by a Kilmoyley side in ten days as the U15s, U16s and minors also played games that resulted in stalemate.
MINORS SEE PLENTY OF ACTION 15th July'11 Our U18s had a busy week with two county league games. In an exciting county league clash last Monday, Kilmoyley travelled to Ballyheigue to take on the locals. Even though they scored 2-17, it was only enough to manage a draw as the home side notched up 4-11. Man of the match Dougie Fitzell was Kilmoyley's main scorer with 13 points. On Friday, Kilmoyley played Kenmare/Kilgarvan at home in their final league game. In an exciting finish, Luke Fitzell blasted the ball to the back of the net from a 21 metre free in the final minute to win the tie on a scoreline of 2-14 to 4-6. Kilmoyley must await the outcome of the Ballyheigue/Kenmare tie to see if they progress in the competition. Injuries to Dougie Fitzell and Sean Nolan were a big blow however and we wish both players speedy recoveries.
U21S LOST OUT 14th July'11 There was no joy for the U21s last Tuesday as they went down by nine points away to Causeway. However, despite the loss, there were many positives to be taken from the game and no doubt they will be aiming to improve again for the next outing.
GREAT HURLING BY U16S 14th July'11 Our U16s had their best performance of the year in their county championship quarterfinal tie against Lixnaw on Tuesday and were unlucky not to come away with a win, as Lixnaw scored a late point to level the game to leave the final scoreline at 2-10 to 3-7. In a low scoring first half, Kilmoyley dominated possession but only managed four points, while Lixnaw scored 1-2 to lead at the break. It looked all over for Kilmoyley with a quarter remaining as Lixnaw opened a five point lead thanks to two goals. But the home side battled back with goals from Sean Curran and Jordan Brick to edge in front but Lixnaw's late equaliser meant the sides meet in again in a replay.
U15s REMAIN UNBEATEN 7th July'11 Kilmoyley's U15s remain unbeaten after two rounds of the North Kerry league following this 3-6 TO 2-4 win over Crotta O'Neills. The game was never going to live up to the thriller of two nights earlier, as the earlier rain made top class hurling more difficult. But both sides served up a good hour of hurling. The home side started well with an early point by Jordan Brick, but this was followed by three Kilmoyley wides. Crotta replied with two points followed by a goal to race into the lead. The wet underfoot conditions were not conducive to free flowing hurling but both sides showed great determination and skill at times. This was typified by Kimoyley's next score, a well taken goal by Eoin McCarthy which was followed by a good Paudie Godley point. Crotta were back in the game with two further points as the half drew to a close, but a late goal and pointed free by Jordan Brick gave Kilmoyley a goal cushion at the break on a scoreline of 2-4 to 1-4. Kilmoyley increased their lead soon after the restart with a second Jordan Brick goal, but once again Crotta's reply was swift as they punished the Kilmoyley defence who failed to clear their lines from a free. But this was to be Crotta's final score despite trying hard to the end. Kilmoyley only added two further scores before the end, in a low scoring second half but they will be pleased to have earned the win. Best for Crotta were Adrian O'Mahony, David Behan and Barry O'Mahony while Kieran Regan, Shane Monahan, Liam Claffey and Fiachra King played well for Kilmoyley.
U15s SERVE UP A CRACKER 5th July'11 Kilmoyley's U15s were involved in one of the most enthralling and entertaining hurling games ever played in Kilmoyley on Thursday evening. In this first round tie of the North Kerry league, the home side and Abbeydorney played out a classic. There were 15 goals scored in total, 9 of them scored by the travelling side. But Kilmoyley managed to score 6-15 themselves as the sides finished level, Abbeydorney adding six points to their haul of goals. NEW SENIOR AWAY JERSEYS 26th June'11 The hurling club will have a new set of senior jerseys for this year's championship as an alternative to our traditional jersey of a green body with a gold V or stripe. The new jersey will have a white body, the same gold V on the front across the chest, with a gold stripe on the sleeves, while the collar will be green. Flaherty's Hardware will appear as sponsor on the chest and the club crest will be printed on the chest and sleeves. The new jerseys will assist players and supporters to distinguish their players more easily, and lead to less confusion.
COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DRAW 25th June'11 The draw for this year's senior county hurling championship took place on radio Kerry last Saturday under the new sponsorship of Garveys Supervalu. Kilmoyley were given a difficult draw as they face Crotta O'Neills in the opening round, the only side to have beaten Kilmoyley so far this year. All first round games take place on the weekend of July 24th. The other opening round fixtures are Causeway vs Ballyheigue, St. Brendans vs Abbeydorney and Ballyduff vs Lixnaw.
INTERMEDIATES FALL TO ST. BRENDANS 24th June'11 were defeated by St. Brendans in the semi-final of the North Kerry championship after extra time in Ardfert last Thursday on a scoreline of 1-16 to 0-16. The sides finished level on 0-12 each at the end of normal time with Sean Maunsell and Pat Deenihan playing well for Kilmoyley. But St. Brendans scored a quick 1-2 at the start of extra time to give them a comfortable lead. Despite trying their best, the away side could not close the gap and when a late Kilmoyley free was cleared the game was called to an end. Kilmoyley team: Seamus Regan, Gavin O'Connor, Padraig Regan, Coleman Savage, Sean Godley, Pat Deenihan, Tommy Maunsell, Sean Dowling, Brendan Harris, Andy McCarthy, Sean Maunsell, Conor Fitzell, Michael Meehan, Edward Fitzgerald, Joe McElligott, Gerald O'Carroll, James Murphy. GOOD WEEKEND FOR ADULT TEAMS 19th June'11 Kilmoyley's Seniors and Intermediates had good wins over the weekend with wins over Causeway and Lady's Walk respectively. SENIORS LOSE IN NK C'SHIP 7th June'11 Kilmoyley lost 2-10 to 1-11 to Crotta at Dromakee in the quarter final of the North Kerry championship. The game was played in winter like conditions, but the new pitch was like a carpet and made for a good game of hurling. Kilmoyley started with two of Kerry's Christy Ring cup panel with Tom Murnane and Adrian Royle lining out. Crotta played with the strong breeze and hit the front with an early point. Kilmoyley enjoyed lots of early possession but the forwards made little headway against a tight home defence. Crotta added a goal after ten minutes to strengthen their position as the Kilmoyley forwards struggled to find their range. Andy McCarthy did score a couple of frees to keep Kilmoyley in touch but another Crotta goal before the break left the visitors struggling on a scoreline of 2-6 to 0-3. KERRY HURLERS CREATE HISTORY 4th June'11 After seven years of trying, the Kerry senior hurlers have finally and deservedly won the 2011 Christy Ring Cup following their comprehensive 2-21 to 2-8 win over Wicklow at Croke park. This was Kerry's second final in a row at HQ, and the experience of last year certainly stood to the team as they kept their composure even when they were not hurling at their best. When a team scores 2-21 it is generally the forwards that deserve the plaudits, but on this occasion Kerry's defence only conceded ten scores and withstood a barrage of Wicklow pressure time after time. Special mention must go to all the Kilmoyley players and officials involved. In the final itself, James Godley filled the full back position with distinction, while Adrian Royle was introduced as a substitute late in the game. John B. O'Halloran, David Fitzell and Tom Murnane all played an important role in Kerry's squad and they all deserve huge credit for their commitment and hard work during the year. To Kerry hurling officer Joe Walsh, this win is a just reward for his years of dedicated service. And to Seamus Regan and Xavier Lovett who were there during the year whenever anything was needed for the team. Well done also to former Kilmoyley senior Colin Harris who was one of Kerry's best players during the year and had a wonderful final.
ALL ROADS LEAD TO CROKE PARK 3rd June'11 Best of luck to the Kerry Senior hurlers who take on Wicklow in the Christy Ring cup final at Croke park on Saturday at 2pm. There are high hopes that Kerry will bring home the title this year following their superb away win over Down in the semi final and the players themselves will hope to go one further following last years final disappointment. There are two changes to the semi final starting team with Padraig O'Grady and Michael Conway coming in for Tom Murnane (suspended) and James Flaherty. Murnane's loss is a big blow to the team but James Godley is more than capable of filling his boots at full back. Best of luck to John Meyler's men and hopefully there will be a large Kerry following to cheer on the side.
U11S ENJOY A WIN IN LEAGUE 30th May'11 Well done to Kilmoyley's U11s who had a good win over Lixnaw this week.
MUNSTER SUCCESS FOR KILMOYLEY HURLERS 26th May'11 Congratulations to Kilmoyley hurlers Kieran Regan, Robert Collins and captain Sean Curran who played a major role in helping Causeway Comprehensive school to the Munster "A" First year Vocational schools title on Thursday in Abbeyfeale against Hazelwood college of Dromcollogher, Cork on a scoreline of 3-17 to 3-7. This is a great honour for the boys and their efforts will help inspire their fellow Kilmoyley team mates for the future.
KERRY HURLERS SET FOR CROKER 21st May'11 Well done to the Kerry senior hurlers who had a brilliant win over Down in Newry last Saturday in the semi-final of the Christy Ring Cup on a scoreline of 1-18 to 1-17. This sets up a final against Wicklow at Croke park on June 4th. Manager John Meyler will be delighted with his sides brave effort, as they finished the game with 13 players. Unfortunately, Kilmoyley's Tom Murnane was one of those dismissed. It took a late Shane Nolan free to clinch the win for Kerry, after they had surrendered an eight point lead. But Meyler has toughened this sides' mentality, and where in previous games Kerry might have thrown in the towel in such circumstances, the players worked harder and fought for their win. Well done to all. James Godley and Tom Murnane were the Kilmoyley players in action on the day.
CLUB MEETING TAKES PLACE 21st May'11 At the club meeting held at the clubrooms last Saturday it was decided to purchase an "away" set of senior jerseys. Over the past few years there has been a number of jersey clashes with other teams and this would eliminate any confusion over colours. It was proposed to go with a white set with some variation of our own green and gold.
Club members were thanked for their efforts in selling and buying lines for the successful Easter draw. The next club fund raiser will be the Summer draw. Players were reminded that club membership should be paid at this stage to ensure they are covered for insurance. The field committee were commended for their excellent work to date, on the re-alignment of the car park and repair of the main gates. The pitch too is in excellent condition at the moment.
U13S LOSE TO BALLYHEIGUE 20th May'11 Kilmoyley's U13s were in action last week against Ballyheigue in the county league but were well beaten by the home side. Maurice O'Connor played well for Kilmoyley scoring two goals but he was well supported by Eamon Dowling and Sean O'Regan. Some of our younger players David Godley, Liam Flaherty and Cillian Monahan also tried hard.
KILMOYLEY CLUB MEETING 20th May'11 A club meeting of all members will take place at the clubrooms this Saturday at 8pm to discuss all items relevant to the club. All members are welcome to voice their opinions on any club matters up for discussion which will include picking a new set of senior away jerseys.
CHRISTY RINC CUP SEMI 20th May'11 Best of luck to the Kerry hurlers and to the Kilmoyley hurlers involved who take on Down in the semi-final of this year's Christy Ring Cup. Unfortunately for Kerry, they must travel to the Mourne county for Saturday's game where the home side have a very good record. Kerry will be without influential centre back Michael Conway, and in a surprise move have installed Ballyheigue's Jason Casey in the number six berth. But Kerry welcome back the influential trio of Colin Harris, Andrew Keane and John Griffin for the game and hopefully they will get the job done. Best of luck to James Godley and Tom Murnane also who line out in the full back line.
NO JOY FOR INTERMEDIATES 18th May'11 Our Intermediates poor run of form continued with a home defeat to Lady's Walk on Wednesday on a scoreline of 2-8 to 1-12. It's Causeway away next week.
U16s DEFEATED IN LEAGUE FINAL 12th May'11 Kilmoyley's U16s were well beaten by Kenmare/Kilgarvan in the county league division 2 final at Austin Stack park last Thursday. Playing with the advantage of the breeze Kilmoyley were slow to settle as their opponents made the better start. Kenmare/ Kilgarvans full back line and keeper made an amount of clearances early on to set up their forwards for a couple of scores. Sean Curran worked hard to open Kilmoyley's account on ten minutes and this score settled his side. Kilmoyley added another five points over the next ten minutes as they took control of the game. But a late Kenmare goal just before the break levelled matters and undid a lot of Kilmoyley's good work. Kenmare applied lots of pressure on the resumption and it wasn't long before their efforts paid off with a goal. From here on Kilmoyley were on the back foot and Kenmare added more goals to take control of the game. To their credit Kilmoyley kept battling and finished with the final two points. But it was too little too late as the boys from South Kerry ran out deserving winners on a scoreline of 6-7 to 0-8. For some of our U14s this was their third game in two days, as they also had games with Causeway Comprehensive school and Ardfert's footballers. From a player's welfare point of view this situation should not have been allowed, but great credit is due to the boys for their efforts. Team: Emmet Meehan, Fiachra King, Niall Meehan, Kieran O'Regan, Robert Collins, Paudie Godley, Robert McElligott, Paudie O'Connor, Kieran McCarthy, Mark Lynch, Jordan Brick, Mark Griffin, Sean Curran, Eoin McCarthy, Jack Sheehy, Shane Monahan, Darren Godley, Liam Claffey.
INTERMEDIATES GO DOWN TO NEIGHBOURS 11th May'11 The Intermediates poor recent form continued when they lost by two points to St. Brendans on Wednesday in the county league.
SENIORS WIN CO LEAGE OPENER 8th May'11 Kilmoyley's seniors enjoyed a winning start to their county league campaign with an away victory over Lixnaw on Sunday on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-12. Both sides welcomed back their county players for their first club games of the year with Tom Murnane, David Fitzell and Adrian Royle lining out for Kilmoyley while young Dougie Fitzell made his seniors debut in goals. A strong breeze made playing conditions difficult but both sides served up an entertaining game. Kilmoyley started well with a Jason Fealy point direct from the throw in from midfield and they followed with an Andy McCarthy free. Pat Deenihan scored a good long range point to stretch Kilmoyley's lead but Lixnaw replied with a pointed free from James Flaherty who was their main scorer from frees. Kilmoyley's midfield dominated the first half but our inside forwards found the going difficult against a tough Lixnaw full back line. But their efforts were rewarded when a long ball from Sean Maunsell deceived the defence and went all the way to the net. Lixnaw finished the half with a couple of points to leave the half time score 1-7 to 0-5. MIXED FORTUNES FOR UNDERAGE TEAMS 1st May'11 Our U16s qualified for the final of division 2 of the county league when they produced their best form for some time to overcame Abbeydorney/ Crotta/Duagh by 7-13 to 1-2 in the semi final. The same teams met only four weeks earlier when Kilmoyley lost by a point so this was a brilliant turnaround. Hopefully the players can re-produce the same form for the final next week against Kenmare/ Kilgarvan. NO JOY FOR INTERMEDIATES 1st May'11 Our Intermediates were unlucky to lose by the minimum to Causeway in the North Kerry final at Ballyheigue last Sunday. This was the sides first defeat of the year but they will be back with more titles with a bit of luck and if they continue their hard work.
GOOD WEEK FOR FORMER MANAGERS 1st May'11 Congratulations to the clubs most recent senior team trainers who enjoyed big victories at the weekend. Anthony Daly's Dublin side recorded a famous win over mighty Kilkenny in the National league final at Croke park to win their first title in over 70 years. Kerry senior hurling boss John Meyler also enjoyed a second round Christy Ring cup second round win over Meath in Tralee on Sunday to give them a semi-final spot on a scoreline of 1-20 to 1-17 . While it wasn't Kerry's best display of the year, Meyler will be pleased that his side now has three weeks to prepare for the tie and will allow some of his injured players to recover. Kilmoyley players Tom Murnane and James Godley were excellent throughout, while Adrian Royle played well after being introduced as substitute. Well done to all.
KERRY MINORS OUTHURLED IN MUNSTER 30th April'11 It was a disappointing week for the Kerry minor hurlers. Despite two good first half displays against Clare in Tralee in their first round game and against Cork in the semi-final playoff, Kerry ended with two heavy defeats. This was a great pity as it did not reflect the huge work put in by this team during the year. Kilmoyley had three players on the team in Dougie Fitzell, Daniel Collins and Luke Fitzell while Vincent Savage and John Godley were substitutes.
WINNERS OF EASTER CLUB DRAW 26th April'11 The hurling club's annual Easter draw took place at An Tochar Ban on Monday night with a large crowd in attendance. Thanks to all those who supported the draw which was well supported. The winners were:-
INTERMEDIATES REACH NK FINAL 25th April'11 Well done to our Intermediates who continued their unbeaten start to the year with another win in the North Kerry league. They have now qualified to meet Causeway in the final on Sunday thanks to their 0-13 to 0-5 win over Lixnaw. U16s INTO COUNTY LEAGUE FINAL 24th April'11 Our U16s produced their best form for some time when they overcame Abbeydorney/ Crotta/Duagh by 7-13 to 1-2 in the semi final on Sunday. The same teams met only four weeks earlier when Kilmoyley lost by a point so this was a brilliant turnaround. Hopefully the players can re-produce the same form for the final next week.
KERRY WIN CHRISTY RING OPENER 23rd April'11 It was a struggle for most of the game but in the end the Kerry senior hurlers edged to victory over Kildare in their Christy Ring cup opener by 1-25 to 1-21. A goal midway through the second half by John Egan proved decisive as Kerry's superior fitness began to tell. Kerry will now have a home tie on Saturday against Meath who defeated Armagh. In the other games Derry upset the odds to defeat Down while Wicklow continued their good form to beat Mayo.
SUCCESS FOR KILMOYLEY TRAINER 21st April'11 Congratulations to Kilmoyley senior trainer John O'Meara who guided his Sixmilebridge U21 side to a 4-14 to 1-10 victory over Cratloe in the Clare county championship on Thursday at Cusack park. John has had an immediate impact with Kilmoyley since taking over the reigns from fellow county man Anthony Daly in March as they won the North Kerry league at his first attempt. Long may his success continue!!
KERRY HURLERS END LEAGUE CAMPAIGN 17th April'11 Despite losing to Laois last Sunday the Kerry hurlers can be pleased with their effort as they now look forward to a Christy Ring cup opener with Kildare this weekend. Kilmoyley had four starting players in John B O'Halloran, James Godley, Tom Murnane and David Fitzell while Adrian Royle was introduced as sub. John Meyler will be satisfied with his league campaign and can look forward to better things in the coming months.
DALY STILL GOING STRONG 17th April'11 Well done to Kilmoyley manager from the past four years Anthony Daly who has guided the Dublin senior hurlers to their first National league final since 1946 with a one point win over Cork on Sunday. It's reported Daly roared "Up Kilmoyley and Clarecastle" after the game.
SENIORS WIN 2011 NORTH KERRY LEAGUE TITLE 16th April'11 Kilmoyley's seniors upset the odds when they defeated Abbeydorney by 0-13 to 1-9 to win the North Kerry league and the Sonny Harris cup. Played on a wonderful pitch surface in Lerrig, Kilmoyley started the game with only four players that lined out in last years championship semi final, so it was a big ask of the new players. But they started the game in top form as Kilmoyley raced into a three point lead, all from Man of the match Andy McCarthy. But a defensive lapse offered Abbeydorney a chance from a 21, which was well finished to the net by Aidan Healy to level matters. Kilmoyley continued to dominate for the next ten minutes and added further points from Pat Deenihan, Padraig Regan and McCarthy (2). In defence, Gavin O'Connor and captain Sean Maunsell dominated as the visitors failed to use any possesssion that came their way. But as Abbeydorney won more ball, Kilmoyley lost their discipline and conceded a numerous amount of soft frees which were converted by Healy. By half time, Kilmoyley had lost their early advantage and trailed by 1-5 to 0-7.
Kilmoyley started the second half as they did the first by dominating possession around the field as the younger players especially showed great enthusiasm in their play. Conor Fitzell opened the scoring with a well taken point to level matters before Andy McCarthy slotted over his sixth point to edge Kilmoyley in front. Abbeydorney began to win more ball around the middle of the field, but with Kilmoyley's defence on top they could not make use of it. As the game moved into the final quarter Abbeydorney were awarded a penalty but it was brilliantly saved and cleared by keeper Brendan Harris to lift the home sides chances. McCarthy continued to tag on important points for Kilmoyley but Abbeydorney kept in touch thanks to their free taking. They scored their only point from play with ten minutes remaining which was a credit to the home sides defence for whom Seanie Murnane and Niall Young were excellent in the second half. But it was a battling team performance that won this title fro Kilmoyley in the end and there was great relief as the final whistle sounded. Congratulations to all players on what was one of Kilmoyley's best title wins in recent times considering the number of absent players. Well done also to manager John O'Meara and his selectors John B Griffin, Tom Godley and John Nolan. This is a great boost for the year ahead and if the players continue their good work over the coming months there is every reason to be optimistic. Kilmoyley team : Brendan Harris, Seanie Murnane, Ian Brick, Joseph O'Sullivan, Gavin O'Connor, Sean Maunsell (captain), Jason Fealy, James McCarthy, Pat Deenihan(0-2), Edward Fitzgerald, Andy McCarthy(0-9), Niall Young, Conor Fitzell(0-1), Padraig Regan(0-1), Luke Fitzell. subs Micheal Regan, Padraig O'Sullivan, Maurice Murnane. INTERMEDIATES WIN IN COUNTY LEAGUE 13th April'11 Kilmoyley's Intermediates continued their winning ways with a comfortable 6-14 to 1-7 win away to Duagh in the North Kerry league. Team: Seamus Regan, John Paul O'Mahony, Padraig Regan, Joe O'Sullivan, Gavin O'Conor, Sean Maunsell, Tommy Maunsell, Brendan Harris, Pat Deenihan, Andy Mac,Conor Fitzell,Padraig Sullivan, Sean Flaherty, Brian Nolan, Joe McElligott, Subs used, Colman Savage, James murphy, Gerald Carroll, T.J Maunsell. U16s TRAVEL TO KENMARE 12th April'11 Our U16 hurlers travelled to Kenmare on Tuesday to play the locals in their final division 2 league game. Unfortunately, it was not one of their better performances, but they still almost managed a result in the end. The Kilmoyley defence gifted the home side an early goal when a free from midfield went all the way to the net. But Kilmoyley got the next two points to get back in the game. Kenmare scored a point to stretch their lead and added a second soft goal shortly after. Kilmoyley added a further point before halftime to trail 2-1 to 0-3. NK FINAL IN KILMOYLEY 11th April'11 Our Seniors play Abbeydorney in the North Kerry league final on Saturday in Kilmoyley. This will be a difficult ask for Kilmoyley, even at home as they are missing so many players through injury and unavailability. But if they continue to play as they have done to date, they will certainly give a good account of themselves as the younger players have showed plenty of enthusiasm and energy.
KERRY U16 HURLERS 10th April'11 Well done to Kilmoyley's Paudie O'Connor, Niall Meehan and Jordan Brick who lined for the Kerry U16 hurlers in the Gary Scollard tournament in Tralee at the weekend. Paudie was captain of the side. Kerry won their first game comfortably with Niall Meehan netting a goal. Despite playing well against Seandún in the second game, Kerry lost to a couple of late scores but qualified for the shield final. Unfortunately, Kerry could not reproduce the form of the first game and were beaten by West Waterford. It was a good experience for the players however, and they will benefit form it. Well done especially to Paudie O'Connor who played a captains part throughout.
U14s & U12s IN ACTION 10th April'11 U14 Feile na nGael: Kilmoyley qualified for the quarter finals of the Feile na nGael when they emerged second from their group at last weekends qualifying competition at Ballyduff. After winning their first game against St. Brendans, Kilmoyley then defeated Abbeydorney. They faced Ballyheigue in their final game where both defences were on top, Ballyheigue finished stronger and emerged with the win. Well done to all the players and mentors who have put in a lot of work.
U16s GAIN FIRST WIN 10th April'11 Despite playing below their best Kilmoyley's U16s defeated Dr. Crokes in their second county league game on a scoreline of 3-8 to 1-3. Kilmoyley were good value for their win but for a five minute lapse in the second half that allowed the visitors back into the game. Emmet Meehan up front and Paudie Godley in defence were best for Kilmoyley.
IMPORTANT REMINDER !! 4th April'11 a Reminder to all our players that club membership must now be paid to ensure that you are covered under the insurance scheme as any injury will not otherwise be covered.
FIELD COMMITTEE SET UP 3rd April'11 The newly formed Field committee had their first meeting last week and is putting a works program together which will get underway shortly. These works will enhance the quality of our pitches, car park and dressing rooms as well as ensuring the safety of our patrons.
BETTER FROM KERRY HURLERS BUT... 3rd April'11 Despite a positive opening 20 minutes in their NHL tie against Limerick, the Kerry senior hurlers could not maintain their grip on the game and could only manage a further four points for the remaining fifty minutes. Played in Kilmallock' an upset seemed to be on the cards as Kerry led by 1-5 to 4 points but the home side ran out comfortable winners by 1-24 to 1-9. Tom Murnane at full back and David Fitzell at wing forward were Kilmoyley's representatives in the side while former Kilmoyley hurler Colin Harris lined out at corner back. Final game in the league for Kerry is at home against Laois, who had a surprise win over Clare.
U14s & U12s IN ACTION 2nd April'11 U14s: On Saturday Kilmoyley lost out to Ballyheigue in the county league going down by two points. There was little between the sides throughout the game but Ballyheigue finished stronger. Final score Kilmoyley 3-7 Ballyheigue 4-6.
Kilmoyley play in the qualifying round of the Feile na nGael in Ballyduff this Saturday. SENIORS LOSE FIRST GAME OF THE YEAR 2nd April'11 Kilmoyley lost their first game of the year against Crotta O'Neills in their final group game of the North Kerry league last Friday. The game was played in Ballyduff in windy conditions and Crotta took full advantage of it in the first half to lead 2-6 to 0-2. Kilmoyley started the second half well and reduced the deficit with some well taken scores including a Sean Maunsell goal. But Crotta added further scores of their own and held out for the win by 2-12 to 0-12. But Kilmoyley's two earlier wins in the competition mean that they qualify for the final next weekend.
GOOD START FOR INTERMEDIATES 30th March '11 Our Intermediates opened their season with a home win against Austin Stacks in the first round of the North Kerry league last Wednesday. The team had a nice blend of youth and experience but they did enough to win by six points. Final score Kilmoyley 1-12 Austin Stacks 0-9. U16s STRUGGLE FOR NUMBERS 29th March '11 Kilmoyley U16s could only field 16 players for their season opener against the combined outfit of Abbeydorney / Crotta/ Duagh last Tuesday. A poor start saw the side trail 8 points to nil after the first quarter. A few positional changes settled the team and they began to gain the upper hand. By half time, Kilmoyley had drawn level thanks to two goals and a point from Eoin McCarthy and a point from Jordan Brick.
Both sides swapped points after the break but an Abbeydorney goal gave them the lead. Kilmoyley fought hard to get back but could not take the lead and the visitors held out for the win. It was a great effort by the Kilmoyley boys and they should be pleased with their efforts. no doubt, this experience will stand to them later in the year. INTERMEDIATES WIN OPENER 30th March'11 Kilmoyley's Intermediates opened their season with a home win against Austin Stacks in the first round of the North Kerry league. The team had a mixture of young, old and very old but they blended nicely to win by six points. Final score Kilmoyley 1-12 Austin Stacks 0-9. Team: Big Jim, Joe Sullivan, Padraig Regan, John Paul O'Mahony, Gavin Connor, Sean Maunsell(0-4) Tommy Maunsell, Pat Deenihan, Ray Barrett, Sean Flaherty, Andy McCarthy(0-4), Micheál Regan(0-2),Joe McElligott(0-1), Michael Meehan(0-1),Brian Nolan(1-0). Subs used. Colman Savage, James Murphy, Gerald Carroll. U16s PLAY WELL IN CO LEAGUE 30th March'11 Kilmoyley U16s had a similar story to our seniors the previous Sunday when they could only field 16 players for the season opener against the combined outfit of Abbeydorney/ Crotta/ Duagh. A poor start saw the side trail 8 points to nil after the first quarter. A few changes in position helped settle the team and they began to gain the upper hand. By half time, Kilmoyley had drawn level thanks to two goals and a point from Eoin McCarthy and a point from Jordan Brick. SENIORS CONTINUE GOOD FORM 27th March'11 Kilmoyley's seniors won their second game of the year when they played Causeway in the second round of the North Kerry league. It did not look good before the game for the winners with only 16 players togging out. But all players gave their best and were deserving winners in the end. Final score Kilmoyley 1-15 Causeway 2-7. Team: Joe McElligott, Seanie Murnane, Sean Maunsell, Ian Brick, Tommy Maunsell, David Fitzell, Gavin O'Connor, Pat Deenihan, James McCarthy, Brendan Harris, Andy McCarthy, Niall Young, Conor Fitzell, Michael Meehan, Sean Flaherty. sub Padraig Regan.

TREBLE FOR KILMOYLEY 21st March'11 It was a busy St. Patrick's weekend for the club with three teams in action, all taking on Ballyduff.
Seniors: Our seniors were also in action on Saturday at home to Ballyduff in the first round of the North Kerry league. Despite both sides missing a number of first team regulars, it was an entertaining season opener played in heavy conditions. Kilmoyley started well with the breeze and were three points up inside ten minutes before Ballyduff opened their account with a free. Kilmoyley continued to dominate the half and despite a number of wides were twelve points to two up at half time. Andy McCarthy stretched Kilmoyley's lead with an early second half point and although Ballyduff got back into the game with 1-1 with a quarter remaining, the home side finished strongly and a goal from Brendan Harris sealed the win. New boss John O'Meara will be pleased with his sides effort especially from the younger players and it offers much needed hope for the year ahead. Final score 1-16 to 1-4. Team: Joe McElligott, Gavin O'Connor, Ian Brick, Pat Deenihan, Tommy Maunsell, Sean Maunsell, Joseph O'Sullivan, Edward Fitzgerald, David Fitzell, Brendan Harris, James McCarthy, Niall Young, Conor Fitzell, Padraig Regan, Andy McCarthy. subs Luke Fitzell, John Paul O'Mahony, Brian Nolan. Well done to the young lads who made their competitive senior debut. The seniors face Causeway away in round two next Sunday at 12pm.
Minors: Kilmoyley's minors once again faced Ballyduff on Sunday in their second game of the North Kerry league at home and made it three wins from three for Kilmoyley sides over the weekend. Both sides were missing a few first team regulars but they served up an entertaining game with plenty of good hurling. Both sides had a number of early wides as they struggled to cope with the breeze, and in a low scoring half the home side went in at the break leading 3 points to 1, all of Kilmoyleys scores coming from frees. Kilmoyley were more direct in the second half and had two points from play inside five minutes from Paudie Godley and from David Ryan who had switched from centre back to the forty. These were cancelled out by Ballyduff inside ten minutes to leave Kilmoyley ahead by two points heading into the final quarter which produced the best hurling of the game. Then, Ballyduff were awarded a goal when referee Tony McCarthy deemed the Kilmoyley keeper had stepped over the line with the ball to put them one point to the good. But credit to the Kilmoyley boys who fought back with a well worked goal by David Ryan. The same player added two more points inside five minutes and Kilmoyley continued to dominate and finished with further points by Ryan and Dougie Fitzell and a goal by Vincent Savage. Well done to all the Kilmoyley players who gave their best on the day but special mention must go to Niall Meehan and John Godley who were excellent throughout. Next out is Ballyheigue at home next Sunday. Team: Jordan Brick, Paudie O'Connor, Coleman Savage, Niall Meehan, David Ryan (1-4), James Murphy, Dougie Fitzell (0-3f), John Godley, Luke Fitzell, Dougie Fitzell, Robert McElligott, Peter Crowe, Paudie Godley(0-1), Jack Sheehy, Vincent Savage(1-1), Darren Godley.
MINORS LOSE IN SEASON OPENER 13th March'11 Our minor hurlers were the first into competitive action in 2011 when they took on the combined Abbeydorney/Crotta O'Neills/Duagh outfit on Sunday in Abbeydorney in the first round of the North Kerry league. The team's management of Maurice Fitzgerald and Brendan McElligott will be pleased with the efforts of most of the players but a big improvement will be required for future training and games if the side is to have any chance of silverware later in the year. Kilmoyley went down on a scoreline of 0-9 to 4-18. The team lined out as follows:- Jordan Brick, Paudie O'Connor, David Ryan, Niall Meehan, John Godley, Dougie Fitzell, Coleman Savage, Florence McCarthy, Vincent Savage, Robert McElligott, Luke Fitzell, James Murphy, Paudie Godley, Peter Crowe, Jack Sheehy, Shane Monahan.
KERRY SECURE SECOND LEAGUE WIN 12th March'11 Kerry defeated Westmeath in the National hurling league by two points at Austin Stack park on Saturday to give themselves a great chance of remaining in division 2 of the competition in 2012. While the result itself was satisfactory, there will be some disappointment as to the manner of the win, as this was a very poor Westmeath side. For probably the first time ever, the three players starting in Kerry's full back line were from Kilmoyley, while Adrian Royle once again lined out at wingback. Adrian was somewhat unlucky to be substituted but James Godley, Tom Murnane and Colin Harris can be well pleased with their efforts. From early on Kerry were well in the game and finished the first half with a brace of points to lead at the break after playing into a breeze. A goal after ten minutes of the second half gave Kerry a decent cushion but this was quickly cancelled out. However, Kerry showed great composure and determination to tack on further scores when they were most under pressure and this will have pleased manager John Meyler the most. Westmeath had a 21 metre free at the end to win but it was saved and cleared. Well done to all involved and with the addition of coach Frankie Flannery to their back room team, Kerry will certainly be a much improved side in their remaining games against Clare, Limerick and Laois
KERRY'S NHL CAMPAIGN CONTINUES 10th March'11 The Kerry hurlers continue their quest for survival in division 2 of the NHL when they take on Westmeath at home on Saturday. John Meyler will be hoping that the side can put a full 70 minutes performance together this time round as they look to overcome the side that beat them in last year's Christy Ring Cup final.
COMPETITIVE YEAR BEGINS 10th March'11 It may not be St.Patricks day just yet, but the competitive hurling for the year begins this Saturday 13th March when our Minors take to the field in the North Kerry Championship when they take on the Abbeydorney/ Crotta O'Neills/ Duagh outfit at Abbeydorney at 11am. Minor boss Maurice Fitzgerald has been training the minors for a few weeks now and will be hoping for a good start to the season. BEST WISHES 9th March'11 The club would like to send it's best wishes to former club hurler Colin Harris who is transferring to the Ballincollig club in Cork. Colin gave many years of dedicated service to Kilmoyley at all levels and has five county senior championships to his name. Good luck to Colin and his family for the future. JUVENILE HURLING 3rd Feb'11 Hurling training for Under 6 to Under 10s takes place in the Community centre on Sunday mornings from 11am to 12. All are welcome to take part in the fun and games. The Under 11s to U14s will begin training in the ball alley this Friday from 6pm to 7 weather permitting.
HURLING CLUB MEETING 3rd Feb'11 At last weeks hurling club members meeting, the new senior trainer was ratified. John O'Meara of Sixmilebridge will take over at the helm from Anthony Daly who served for four years as manager at the club. Kilmoyley trailed at the break by 4 points to three but had defended well in the first period. The sides were level within a few minutes following an Andy McCarthy free, but scores were limited for the next fifteen minutes. Edward Fitzgerald was in the right place to flick the ball to the Crotta net to open a three point lead for Kilmoyley. Adrian Royle moved upfield to stretch Kilmoyley's lead with a point. Some excellent defending helped maintain Kilmoyley's lead, and Fitzgerald scored his second goal five minutes from time to secure the win. | |||
